Fernando is an influential scientist, innovator, and entrepreneur, whose technologies are generating high impact worldwide. He has been honored with many international awards, to name a few, the 2016 Stevie® Award, which is considered the “Oscar for Business”, in its two categories: Innovator of the Year for his sustainable vision for water usage, and for Innovation of the Year for his water desalination technology that uses no energy, the 2016 Green Apple Award for his Sustainable Cooling Technology; the “Real Innovator Award”, awarded by the UK’s London Business School, and as a unique feature he is the only executive to have received awards for Best Entrepreneur, Best Innovator and Best Businessman.
As a scientist, and with a background in biochemistry, Fernando has developed and patented several water purification technologies with minimal use of chemicals and energy, which have completely changed people’s lifestyles by bringing idyllic beach life and white sand beaches to any place in the world. Fernando is now putting his scientific efforts towards developing a wide variety of industrial applications that enable worldwide problems to be solved, such as energy and water scarcity, as well as environmental degradation.
Fernando’s innovations have revolutionized the field of water treatment and purification for different uses, encompassing recreational, ornamental, and industrial uses, in both private and public projects. He has developed many technologies that have been protected through different intellectual property privileges (such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets), and currently has a portfolio of over 1,500 patents worldwide.
As an entrepreneur, and as a unique feature, he has been the only person to receive awards for Entrepreneur of the Year, Innovator of the Year, and Businessman of the Year, among many international awards. He is the founder and Chairman of Crystal Lagoons, where in less than 8 years from its foundation the company is currently participating in more than 600 projects in different stages of negotiation or development in 60 countries.
