Australian Press: Crystal Lagoons is The Future of Aquatic Resort Entertainment

6 March, 2017 / News

It’s been called the ‘World’s Top Amenity’, an enormous man-made lagoon of unlimited proportions with disarmingly blue waters. Crystal Lagoons first came to attention when its first project, the eight-hectare mega lagoon at San Alfonso del Mar, Chile, claimed the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest lagoon. Since then, it has gone on to undertake more than 600 projects in 60 countries, including the current record holder for the largest man-made lagoon, the 12.5-hectare expanse at the Citystars development in the desert of Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

To learn about the developments, Oceania Regional Director, Germán Rocca, hosted breakfast for just three members of the media, including LATTE, at Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton Pool at Mrs Macquarie’s Point in Sydney’s Domain. Overlooking the sparkling pool (a tiny fraction of the size of most of Crystal Lagoons’ creations), Mr Rocca shared the latest news from the company, including its first Australian project in Cairns.

Mr Rocca used the term ‘activate’ to describe what Crystal Lagoons does to a resort development. By partnering with real estate developers, industrial institutions and governmental entities, Crystal Lagoons becomes the centrepiece (and selling point) of a transformation into a “beautiful beach paradise”. Locations that are set beside unswimmable seas or even far from the water become desirable as an oasis, offering a very human connection to water that would otherwise be impossible.

The creation of these mega-lagoons is made possible by patented state-of-the-art technology, including sustainable, safe and eco-friendly methods for water filtration (whether salt, fresh or brackish water). As well as industrial applications, Crystal Lagoons’ greatest popularity is as a recreational amenity, inviting swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding and sailing. The applications are only limited by the developer’s imagination; in Bintan’s Treasure Island resort complex, for example, a cable wake park has been incorporated into the lagoon.

Crystal Lagoons is an international innovation company, founded by scientist Fernando Fischmann, which has developed a patent-protected technology that allows the construction and maintenance of unlimited-size crystal clear lagoons at very low costs.
