International media highlights Crystal Lagoons’ 12-hectare lagoon as one of the reasons to visit Egypt in 2017

International travel website Travel Trade has pointed out Crystal Lagoons 12-hectare lagoon at Citystars Sharm El Sheikh as one of the reasons to visit Egypt in 2017.

It is worth mentioning that Crystal Lagoons achieved its second world record for the world’s largest manmade crystal clear lagoon, breaking its own previous Guinness World Record of 2007, when the iconic San Alfonso del Mar lagoon (8 hectares) was certified as the Earth’s largest one by the Guinness World Records organization.

This time it is a 12.5-hectare lagoon that is the main attraction of the Citystars Sharm El Sheikh touristic development, located in the middle of the desert in one of Egypt’s most luxurious coastal areas.

The project is the result of a joint venture between Crystal Lagoons and the Sharbatly family, one of the oldest and most prominent in the field of commerce in the Middle East and Africa, and that has played an important role in the economic development of Saudi Arabia. Currently, they are the owners of the AlNahla holding that gathers together important companies from the financial, real estate, automotive and telecommunications sectors.

The project is located in a 750-hectare site land and considers a total amount of 12 lagoons that totalize 100 hectares of crystal clear water in the middle of the desert, using salt water from underground aquifers in the desert that currently does not have any other alternative use.

The complex will feature 30.000 residential units, hotels, golf courses, marinas, museums and a shopping mall. With a USD 5.500 million investment, the initiative was only possible thanks to Crystal Lagoons’ technology that provided real estate value to the development, taking water with no other use and incorporating it into desert lands that were undevelopable.

Citystars Sharm El Sheikh is the first project in the world in which Crystal Lagoons’ technology is used for recreational and water desalination purposes, using this water resource to feed the complex.

Crystal Lagoons is an international innovation company, founded by scientist Fernando Fischmann, which has developed a patent-protected technology that allows the construction and maintenance of unlimited-size crystal clear lagoons at very low costs.
