World Urban Parks Congress Highlights benefits of Crystal Lagoons in Urban Parks

Crystal Lagoons’ Regional Director for Africa, Alastair Sinclair, has recently attended the World Urban Parks Congress, event in which he presented the benefits for urban parks Crystal Lagoons’ technology represents.

“Parks and the green space and activity associated with them, have benefits across the triple bottom line,” proclaimed Dr Digby Whyte, CEO of World Urban Parks, speaking at the 2nd World Urban Parks Congress held in Cape Town recently.

The theme for the Congress was “People and Green Space – A Celebration of Diversity” with numerous presentations, workshops and discussions on the landscapes, experiences and benefits of urban parks. During the Congress, World Urban Parks committed to strongly advocate the importance of protecting and developing urban parks. Alastair Sinclair, speaking for Crystal Lagoons, a multi-national water innovation company, illustrated that Crystal Lagoons ticks the boxes of social, environmental, and financial aspects of the triple bottom line.

His presentation explained that Crystal Lagoons’ sustainable technology allows for the creation of crystal clear lagoons of unlimited size, surrounded by white sand beaches. At very low construction and maintenance costs, they use 30 times less water than a golf course when filled with fresh water, 100 times less chemicals, and only 2% of the energy used by conventional swimming pool filtration systems. A crystal clear lagoon can also use brackish or even salt water, thus being able to avoid the use of fresh water at all. The implications for a water- and energy-scarce country like South Africa are far-reaching.

“The World’s Top Amenity” requires half the water of a green park of the same size, making it a viable and eco-friendly recreational feature for urban parks, and a much needed facility in dense urban areas in South Africa,” says Sinclair, “An idyllic beach lifestyle is not just for the coast, either. Crystal Lagoons can be built anywhere, even in the middle of deserts, and drastically improves the peoples’ quality of life.”

Crystal Lagoons is an international innovation company, founded by scientist Fernando Fischmann, which has developed a patent-protected technology that allows the construction and maintenance of unlimited-size crystal clear lagoons at very low costs.
